Get started safely with your hardware wallet

Welcome — quick start and essential guidance

This page collects the essential steps and best practices to set up, secure, and use your Trezor hardware wallet. Follow the short checklist below before connecting to third-party services.

Getting started — first-time setup

1
Unbox & inspect

Verify tamper-evidence and packaging. Only proceed if seals and packaging look intact.

2
Download official software

Always download Trezor Suite or the recommended start tools from the official domain. Avoid third-party installers.

3
Create your recovery

Generate a recovery phrase offline, write it down on the provided card, and store it securely. Never photograph or store digitally.

4
Set a PIN

Pick a strong, memorable PIN. Use a PIN protector if available to prevent shoulder-surfing.

Security best practices

Security is layered — device, software, and personal habits. Treat your recovery phrase as the highest-value secret. If compromised, funds can be irreversibly lost.

  • Keep recovery offline and split between secure locations when appropriate.
  • Use passphrase protection for extra accounts — but understand the tradeoffs.
  • Verify addresses on the device screen before confirming transactions.
Important: Trezor employees will never ask for your recovery phrase. If asked, consider it a scam.
